Mediterranean Plants and Gardens is an association for people with particular interest in the flora and gardens of Mediterranean climates. It embraces concepts of sustainable gardening such as matching plant species intelligently to their environment and giving particular attention to economical use of water.
Members enjoy visits to gardens in the Mediterranean and UK, many of which are rarely open to the public, as well as botanising trips. Our chairman, Heather Martin, plans most of these with the help of specialist volunteers and professionals. Heather has organised tours in Armenia, Crete, France, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Montenegro, Morocco, South Africa and Spain. Future trips will include visits to the Peloponnese, Costa Blanca and Sardinia. There are regular events in the UK.
Many members live or have second homes and gardens in Mediterranean areas, or have a special interest in particular Mediterranean plants or regions. Several are horticultural professionals.
All events have an informal social side. Members make new acquaintances - and soon many new friends. A common interest in plants and horticulture overcomes almost every barrier, resulting in a global network of people with shared interests.
