Ottershaw Cacti & Dunsborough Park
Monday 14 June – 10.30 – 15.30
A day trip has been organised to visit two entirely different but equally fascinating venues in Surrey
Directions will be sent to attendees ahead of the event.
Ottershaw Cacti is the home of the 20 year old collection of Daniel Jackson who is passionate about cacti and succulents and this passion has so far taken him to two RHS Chelsea Gold medals, three National Collections and has become one of the leading suppliers of unusual plants of this type.
We will have a private tour of the glasshouses with Daniel and Jo Jackson. There will be the opportunity to buy from the nursery both plants from their on-line store and some very special ones not yet available to a wider audience. It’s a little like walking through a Mediterranean garden under glass. https://ottershawcacti.com/
This nursery is in a private garden in a private road so members need to park where asked and arrive on time. There are toilet facilities on site but no refreshments. The owners do not require you to wear masks, but please do so if you wish. The glasshouses are large and airy.
12.30 we will drive in convoy to Dunsborough Park, Ripley (approx. 15-20 minutes)
Individual packed lunch on the tea lawns of Dunsborough Park. Tables and chairs provided as well as teas/coffees/biscuits. An undercover option will be available if the weather is unkind. Toilets available
Private tour of Dunsborough Park with Head Gardener James Gillions – there will be a particular focus on Mediterranean planting and dry garden practice but the whole garden is beautiful and very interesting. The main focus of the garden at the time of our visit is peonies and roses.
The tour will last approximately 45 minutes.
Transport – the nearest railway station is Woking – 15 minute taxi to Ottershaw Cacti and for one or two people we will try to organise car seats for the transfer to Dunsborough Park and back to the station. The hope is that members will be happy to car share with other vaccinated members/ wearing masks.
£25 pp including entrance and tour at Dunsborough Park, individual packed lunch and tea/coffee/biscuits.
