Botanical guide Oron Peri
Colchicum parlatoris
Autumn in the Peloponnese
Tuesday 1 to Tuesday 8 November 2022
Our expedition will start with dinner on Tuesday in the picturesque seaside city of Nafplio. Members may arrive earlier to suit their flights and point of departure from home, even on the Monday if they wish as this is an interesting place to walk and explore. From Nafplio, we will move on to Kardamyli then Gythio, both in the most southerly Greek mainland. We expect to see autumn crocuses, colchicum, sternbergia, cyclamen, a few orchids, anemones, tiny daffodils and snowdrops.
Lunches will be picnics or in cafes and informal tavernas. We hope to visit two gardens – one remarkable for its location and design, the other of the late Patrick Leigh-Fermor, travel writer and soldier.
The cost of the trip (including hotels, five lunches usually picnics, all dinners, wine with dinner, local transport, entrance fees and guiding) will be £895 per person (sharing a room) or £1030 single occupancy. Transfers from Athens airport to the hotel on Tuesday afternoon and at other times on Monday and Tuesday will be arranged on request at extra cost (est £25 to £50 per person) and there is a public bus service from Athens (Kifissos) to Nafplio. November weather is unpredictable. Days can be sunny and warm or cool with rain or showers.
Please apply as soon as possible using the form below. Places will be offered at the beginning of August. Do not send payment until you have been offered a place, when a deposit of £250 per person will be required and you will be asked to complete a booking form with details of travel insurance, information requested by hotels for local Covid regulations, and dietary requirements, etc.
