Winter Meeting
Saturday 6 January 2024 10.30 for 11.00 via Zoom
At our annual winter meeting this year we are delighted to have botanist Timothy Walker join us for our winter to talk about the flora of northeastern Turkey. For 26 years Timothy was director of the University of Oxford Botanic Garden during which time the Garden won four gold medals at Chelsea. In 2011 he presented three programmes on BBC4 on the history of plant biology. Since 2014 he has been a lecturer and tutor in plant biology at Somerville College Oxford.
In his talk we will join him via his travelogue to look at the flora of Turkey home to a vast number of species. This talk concentrates on the north-eastern corner of the country where many of our common garden plants come from as well as many choice alpine species. He will take us through some 2,000 miles of landscape visiting the Pontic Mountains, the plain of Erzurum and the foothills of Mount Ararat amongst other places of outstanding beauty.
Please note bookings for this event will close 24 hours before at 11am on Friday 5 January.
