Members will visit two Unesco World Heritage Sites: Bronze-age Mycenae (one of the major centres of Greek civilisation and a military stronghold which dominated much of southern Greece in the second millennium BC) and Mystras (a beautifully preserved medieval Byzantine city). These archaeological sites also harbour wild flowers.

During the eight-night tour members can expect to see fields of spring flowers and bulbs. With luck these will include Phlomis fruticosa, Ferula communis, Anthemis chia, Bituminaria bituminosa, Euphorbia acanthothamnos, Campanula, Onosma, Anemone, Cyclamen peloponnesiacum, Tulipa goulimyi and many varieties of orchid.

The tour will start and finish at Athens airport, spending two nights near Mycenae, five in Gytheio, and one in the village of Mystras. Most midday meals are picnics, with food from cafes and local bakeries. Four dinners will be arranged for the group and on the other evenings members will be free to choose where to go. April weather is generally mild, pleasant and often sunny in the day but cools off a lot in the evenings. Rain is notoriously unpredictable. Layers and solid footwear for walking are essential. Carry-on luggage and casual clothes are recommended.

The cost of the trip is £595 per person sharing a room, or £955 per person in single accommodation. After sending in the booking form you will receive confirmation of a place being available for you. Places will be allotted on a first-come-first-served basis. A deposit of £300 must then be paid to secure your place.
